A New Day for Vitamin D

Tosoh Bioscience, Inc. introduces the ST AIA-PACK 25-OH Vitamin D assay for use on Tosoh AIA System Analyzers*. Vitamin D measurement is intended as an aid in the determination of Vitamin D sufficiency.

Utilizing Tosoh’s unit dose test cup reagent technology, ST AIA-PACK 25-OH Vitamin D has an assay time of approximately 40 minutes. Single, unitized test cups require no pre-mixing, no pre-measuring and no on-board refrigeration. Dry reagent format ensures 90-day calibration stability for minimal waste and cost effective testing. Test cups are bar-coded for easy identification and inventory management.

ST AIA-PACK 25-OH Vitamin D is designed for In Vitro Diagnostic Use Only for the quantitative measurement of total 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OH Vitamin D) in human serum, Na heparinized or EDTA plasma on Tosoh AIA System Analyzers. The ST AIA-PACK 25-OH Vitamin D has an assay range of 4 to 120 ng/mL. The antibody has equimolar affinity for both 25-OH Vitamin D2 and D3 and measures the total 25-OH Vitamin D. The 90-day calibration stability makes it feasible to run this test even with low volumes.

Vitamin D is one of the fat-soluble vitamins, the major forms of which are cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) and ergocalciferol (Vitamin D2). Vitamin D is produced in the skin by sunlight exposure and obtained from food and dietary supplements. Both Vitamin D2 and D3 are metabolized in the liver and kidneys to the biologically active form of Vitamin D – 1, 25 (OH)2 Vitamin D.

25-OH Vitamin D is known as the best indicator of Vitamin D status, indicating Vitamin D deficiency. It has been reported that Vitamin D deficiency is associated with several diseases, including osteoporosis, cancers and cardiovascular diseases.

* ST AIA-PACK 25-OH Vitamin D is not available for use on the AIA-360.
